Bingo halls unite to raise money for tsunami fund

An Ulster-based bingo company will hold a record-breaking game to raise money for victims of the tsunami.

Lucky's Bingo Group's 11 halls - based throughout Northern Ireland - will unite tomorrow night to take part in what promises to be the largest event of its kind in the province.

The charity event boasts a £10,000 payout, and will be supported by major bingo halls including Empire, Strand and Westway.

Director of the company, William Gregg explained that the money raised will go towards helping rebuild Kamala primary school in Phuket, Thailand.

"This building was severely damaged in the horrific tsunami disaster and it needs a huge amount of repair and refit work."

Mr Gregg has appealed to the public to support the evening, regardless of experience.

"Even if you've never played bingo before or you are a frequent player - I would really urge you to please come, bring a friend and support this huge charity special night."

He added: "By doing so you will be giving these children another chance of life and education.

"And what's more, you could be a winner too."

Mr Gregg said he hopes to raise around £15,000 in total from further donations made by people attending the event.

He will visit Phuket in April to assess the development of the project.
