Bingo for kids

A Bismarck bingo parlor is scrapping plans to allow children as young as 10 to play.

Dakota Skies Bingo parlor in Bismarck, operated by Prairie Public Broadcasting, changed its policy to allow younger children to play in November. The group's board of directors recently reversed its policy. The action came after some complained about the facility allowing children to gamble.

The new policy starts March 1. The age requirement at Dakota Skies will then be 16 years old, as it was previously.

Don Berg, vice president and chief operating officer of Prairie Public in North Dakota, said the age limit was lowered last fall as a way to create more of a family atmosphere at Dakota Skies, after a state indoor smoking ban went into effect and cut into business.

Bingorama in Minot and the Bingo Palace in Grand Forks, both operated by the North Dakota Association for the Disabled, began allowing 10-year-olds to play in October.
